The 240GB Mercury Accelsior_E2 PCIe Solid State Drive Card from Other World Computing is a high-performance solid state drive that connects to the PCIe slot in your Mac or PC computer. You will actually be able to boot from the Mercury Accelsior_E2 as a Plug and Play solution. With its custom SandForce Driven Accelsior SSD blades, the Mercury Accelsior_E2 card enables Mac and PC users to enjoy a more responsive and productive computing experience along with cooler, quieter and more energy efficient operation, especially when compared to traditional mechanical hard disk drives.

Offering nearly three times the performance of a regular solid state drive in a SATA 2.0 3Gb/s drive bay, the Mercury Accelsior_E2 is perfect for I/O-intensive applications, such as Photoshop, Final Cut Pro and Avid Pro Tools. Rendering, capturing and processing media files require high sustained data transfer speeds and the Mercury Accelsior_E2 delivers with up to a 762MB/s read speed and up to a 763MB/s write speed. Keep in mind that those speeds are when the Mercury Accelsior is connected to a Sandy Bridge Intel processor. It can have a sustained read speed of up to 823MB/s and a sustained write speed of up to 772MB/s when connected to an Ivy Bridge processor. For Mac Pro computers, the Mercury Accelsior_E2 can have a sustained read speed of 678MB/s and a sustained write speed of 687MB/s.

Mac and PC Bootable with No Driver Setup
The Mercury Accelsior_E2 is bootable on PC and Mac computers. The Mercury Accelsior_E2 delivers near instant startup and app launching. And with a driverless setup, it's truly a high-performance Plug and Play solution. You do have an option to download a driver for Mac Pro computers, which ensures proper powering down of Mercury Accelsior_E2 during sleep and shutdown actions. However, this driver has nothing to do with the data operation of the Mercury Accelsior_E2 and Mac Pro computers

SandForce Technologies
DuraWrite extends the endurance of your Mercury Accelsior_E2. Intelligent block leveling and wear leveling automatically distributes data evenly across the entire Mercury Accelsior_E2. Intelligent read distribution management spreads the active read/write across the flash components eliminating data corruption caused by constant use. Intelligent "recycling" for advanced free space management gradually re-writes data across the Mercury Accelsior_E2 over time to ensure data never gets corrupted. RAISE (Redundant Array of Independent Silicon Elements) protects the data on your drive similar to having a RAID setup. ECC (Error Correcting Code) protection allows for long data retention and drive life


PC Throughput
    • PCIe 2.0 x4 slot or better is required. Use of a PCIe 1.0 x4 slot will reduce performance. 

      Mac Pro Throughput
    • 2009-2010 Mac Pro: Installing Accelsior_E2 into any open x4 or x16 PCIe 2.0 slot will deliver full throughput up to 785MB/s.
    • 2008 Mac Pro: These models have two x16 PCIe 2.0 slots, which enable Acceslsior_E2 to deliver full throughput up to 785MB/s. Installing Accelsior_E2 into of the two x4 PCIe 1.0 slots will result in Accelsior_E2 being addressed as a gen one, one-lane card with performance limited to real world 190-200MB/s data rates.
    • 2006-2007 Mac Pro: These models utilize PCIe 1.0 slot which cannot be configured (even with the Expansion Utility in OS X) to address Accelsior_E2 as anything but as a first generation one-lane card. As a result, Accelsior_E2 performance will be limited to 190-200MB/s data rates. If maximum data rate speed up to 285MB/s is desired, we recommend the installation of a 2.5" OWC Mercury SSD in an open Mac Pro drive bay. 

      eSATA Expansion Ports
    • Compatible with all eSATA equipped storage solutions. (Requires 6Gb/s certified cables for connecting to eSATA drives - available separately. Not compatible with port-multiplier enclosures. The eSATA ports do not support hot-swapping. Accelsior_E2 eSATA ports are bootable.)
    • A sleep conflict may be encountered when using certain eSATA chipsets via the eSATA ports when booted to the Accelsior_E2. See the specifications tab for affected solutions where System Sleep mode MUST be disabled in order to ensure reliable operation. Allowing system sleep to occur while one of the affected external drives is connected via the Accelsior_E2 eSATA ports could result in loss of data following wake from sleep. Although the above are our general recommendations for use, wake from sleep has been determined to only be an issue when the Accelsior PCIe is used for startup (SSD or eSATA connected device). We are working with our partners to see that the sleep/wake function is fully supported with all solutions and startup scenarios. 

      Dual Card Use/Booting
    • Dual Accelsior_E2 Usage: The use of two or more Accelsior_E2 SSDs requires OS X 10.6.8 or later.
    • Bootcamp. 2008 Mac Pro (with model ID MacPro3,1): only supported in PCIe slots #3 & #4. All models: To boot Windows via Bootcamp on Accelsior_E2, only one Accelsior_E2 SSD can be installed.
    • 2006-2008 Mac Pro (with model ID MacPro1,1; MacPro2,1; MacPro3,1): Due to an Apple limitation, any volume located on a Mercury Accelsior_E2 SSD will not appear in the "option boot" menu. A volume installed on an Accelsior_E2 can be set as the Mac Pro's boot volume through the "Startup Disk" pane in System Preferences.
